About the clinic
A specialist centre, built around one purpose
Birmingham Neuromodulation Clinic is not a general mental health clinic. It exists to give patients access to advanced brain-based treatments when conventional pathways have not delivered enough progress.

Why we exist
For the people the standard pathway runs out on
Most people who come here have already tried medication, therapy, referrals and time. The standard pathway assumes that if one treatment does not suit you the next one might, and for most people that is true.
When it is not true, the pathway tends to run out of ideas long before the patient does. That is the gap this clinic was built to fill.
We are a small clinic in Edgbaston, a few minutes from Birmingham city centre. Birmingham Neuromodulation Centre Limited is registered in England, company number 14698511, and the clinic is registered with the Care Quality Commission.
Our position
What makes this clinic different
The only Deep TMS in Birmingham
Most clinics in this region offer standard rTMS. We use BrainsWay H-coil technology, which reaches deeper and covers a broader area, at the same price per session.
One of two TPS centres in the UK
Transcranial pulse stimulation for Alzheimer’s disease is currently available at two centres in the country. We are the one outside London.
Consultant-led before you commit
You see a consultant psychiatrist first and the assessment fee comes off your treatment. Some clinics assess you after you have committed to a course.
More than one answer
Deep TMS, TPS, pharmacogenetic testing and CBT for insomnia under one roof, so the recommendation is not decided by the only machine in the building.
The clinic
What it is like to come here
Edgbaston, not a hospital
A small clinic on Islington Row Middleway, a few minutes from the city centre. No wards, no hospital admission, and nothing about the building that feels clinical for the sake of it.
The same faces each visit
A course of Deep TMS means coming in most days for several weeks. You get to know the treatment team, and they get to know you.
Treatment rooms, not cubicles
Purpose-built rooms for Deep TMS and TPS, with a chair you sit in while you are awake. You walk in, have your session, and go back to your day.
Not treatment by template
Dr Nabavi puts it plainly: the aim is to give the right treatment to the right people, and to consider what someone needs individually rather than fitting them to whatever the clinic happens to own.
In practice that means we say no fairly often. If an assessment shows that what you need is not something we do, we will tell you, and point you towards who does. A clinic that filters the wrong person out is more use than one that books everybody in.
Standards and governance
CQC registered
Registered with the Care Quality Commission.
Consultant-led
Dr Behrouz Nabavi, GMC 5174196, Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, assesses every patient before treatment is offered.
NICE-aligned
We follow NICE guidance, including its own caution that response varies between people and that patients should be told a treatment may not help them.
Outcomes measured
Symptoms scored on validated scales at set points, so you and your family can see what has changed.
Clear about the evidence
Protocols exist for other conditions, and some of the research looks promising. If you ask about one, we will explain honestly where the evidence stands.
Your own doctor stays involved
With your permission we write to your GP or psychiatrist. We provide a treatment; we do not take over your care.
The people here
A small team, led by a consultant
Dr Behrouz Nabavi is Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist and Medical Director, with 34 years of clinical experience.
Around him are the clinicians who deliver Deep TMS and TPS, a therapist dedicated to CBT for insomnia, and the practice manager you will speak to when you first call.
It is a small clinic on purpose. A course of treatment means coming in most days for weeks, and it is better for everyone if the people in the room already know you.
Common questions
12 Islington Row Middleway, Edgbaston, Birmingham B15 3UA, a few minutes from the city centre. People travel to us from across the Midlands and, for TPS, from further afield.
Yes. The clinic is registered with the Care Quality Commission, and Dr Nabavi is registered with the General Medical Council under number 5174196.
A short phone call, free of charge, to work out whether an assessment is likely to be worth your time. If it is not, we will say so on the phone.
Then we say so, and where we can we point you towards someone more appropriate. It happens, and it is a more useful answer than starting you on something that will not work.
